AMD Admits AM4 Still Outselling AM5 at CES 2026
AMD's gaming team just dropped a bombshell at CES. Turns out their older AM4 platform is seeing renewed interest compared to AM5.

Okay so I just got out of AMD's gaming roundtable at CES 2026 and wow, they actually said the quiet part out loud. You know how everyone's been wondering why AM4 motherboards and chips keep selling like crazy? AMD finally admitted they're seeing "a little bit of an uptick in the percentage of AM4 versus AM5 platforms."
Here's what's wild about this. The AM4 socket launched back in 2016. That's a decade ago! And yet here we are in 2026 with AMD basically confirming what every budget builder already knows - their older platform still makes way more sense for most people. I mean, you can grab a Ryzen 5600 and a decent B450 board for under $200 total right now. Try doing that with AM5.
The whole press Q&A was supposed to be about their new gaming products, but honestly this AM4 admission stole the show. Makes you wonder if they're rethinking their AM5 pricing strategy for 2027. Because right now, unless you absolutely need the latest and greatest, AM4 just offers insane value. DDR4 is dirt cheap, the boards are mature and stable, and the performance gap isn't that massive for gaming.
What really gets me is how long it took them to acknowledge this trend. Every PC builder I know has been recommending AM4 builds for friends on a budget. Good on AMD for keeping the platform alive, but maybe it's time to make AM5 more accessible?
