AMD CEO basically confirms new Valve Steam Machine launches soon

Okay so I saw this earnings call and had to share. AMD's CEO Lisa Su just dropped some pretty clear hints that Valve's new Steam Machine is actually happening, and soon. During their Q4 2025 earnings call yesterday, she mentioned the device is "on track" for early 2026. That's... basically now.

Here's what we know: This thing is supposedly packing a semi-custom Zen 4 CPU from AMD, which honestly makes total sense given how well the Steam Deck's custom silicon performs. But here's where it gets interesting - they're targeting 4K gaming in a mini PC form factor. I'm cautiously optimistic here because squeezing 4K performance into something small usually means compromises or jet engine fan noise.

The timing feels right though. Steam Deck proved Valve can nail the hardware side, and living room gaming PCs are having a moment. Between the success of handhelds and people wanting alternatives to traditional consoles, a properly executed Steam Machine could actually work this time around. Remember the original Steam Machines from 2015? Yeah, those were a mess. Too many SKUs, confusing pricing, and SteamOS wasn't ready.

Price is gonna be the big question mark. If Valve can hit that sweet spot between console pricing and full gaming PC cost - maybe $599-799? - while delivering genuine 4K performance, they might have something special. But knowing Valve, they'll probably surprise us with some clever feature we didn't see coming. My wallet is already nervous.
