Okay so I saw this FBI report and had to share because the numbers are absolutely wild. Americans lost $333 million to Bitcoin ATM scams in 2025. That's not a typo. Three hundred thirty-three million dollars gone through those crypto machines you see at gas stations and convenience stores.

The FBI says this scam has been climbing steadily since 2020 and shows zero signs of slowing down. Actually, they called it a "clear and constant rise" which is FBI-speak for "this is getting really bad folks." What gets me is how simple these scams are. Scammers convince victims they need to deposit cash into Bitcoin ATMs to pay fake bills, collect fake prizes, or protect their accounts from fake hackers. Once that cash becomes crypto and gets sent to the scammer's wallet? Game over. That money's gone forever.

Here's what really bothers me about this. Bitcoin ATMs charge insane fees already - we're talking 10-20% just to use them legitimately. Now scammers are using them as their personal cash vacuum? Come on. If someone's telling you to go stuff cash into a crypto ATM, that's your red flag right there. No legitimate business, government agency, or tech support will ever ask you to do that. Ever.

Look, I get why these machines exist. Some folks need anonymous crypto transactions. But when the FBI's tracking hundreds of millions in losses year after year, maybe it's time to rethink how accessible these things should be. At minimum, those machines need way better warnings about common scams. Because right now? They're basically fraud magnets sitting in every strip mall in America.
