Chinese GPU Maker Guns for Nvidia's 2027 Rubin Platform

Okay so I saw this announcement and honestly, my first reaction was... really? Another Chinese chip company promising to dethrone Nvidia? But here's what makes this one interesting.
Shanghai Iluvatar CoreX (yeah, that's really their name) just went public and immediately unveiled this aggressive GPU roadmap. They're not just saying they'll compete with current Nvidia stuff. Nope. They're targeting Rubin, which is Nvidia's platform after Blackwell. That's the GPU architecture Nvidia hasn't even fully detailed yet, expected around 2027.
Here's the thing though. Chinese chipmakers have been making some serious moves lately. Remember when everyone laughed at their AI chips? Well, Huawei's Ascend processors are now powering decent AI workloads domestically. And Biren Technology hit some impressive benchmarks before the US export controls knocked them down. So while my gut says this is overly ambitious, I can't completely write them off.
The timing is what gets me. Two years to catch up to where Nvidia will be in 2027? That assumes Nvidia just stops innovating, which... come on. Jensen Huang probably has engineers working on stuff we won't see until 2030. Plus, Iluvatar CoreX still needs to deal with the same manufacturing constraints everyone else faces. TSMC's advanced nodes aren't exactly accessible to Chinese firms right now.
But you know what? Competition is good. Even if they only hit 70% of their target, that could mean more options and better prices for all of us. I'll be watching their actual silicon releases closely. Talk is cheap in the chip world - show me the benchmarks.
