Steam Deck just vanished from stores and nobody knows why
Well this is weird. Steam Deck's completely gone from US and Asia stores. Not "low stock" - just gone. Here's what I think is happening.

Okay so I saw this deal and had to share... except there's no deal because you literally can't buy a Steam Deck right now. Valve's handheld just disappeared from their US and Asia storefronts sometime yesterday. Not sold out with a waitlist. Not "limited availability." Just... gone.
I've been checking Steam Deck availability for months now (still rocking my LCD model from 2022), and this feels different. Usually when stock runs low, you see the dreaded "expected availability in 2-3 weeks" message. But this? The buy button's just missing entirely. Europe still has stock, which makes this whole thing even stranger.
Here's what I think is going on. Remember those chip shortage nightmares from a few years back? We might be looking at round two. Component suppliers have been warning about disruptions in Asia, and Valve sources most of their parts from that region. Could be AMD's having issues with the custom APU production, or maybe it's the display panels. Hard to know without Valve saying something.
The timing's brutal too. We're right in the middle of that post-holiday buying season when people finally have cash again. I've had three friends ask me about Steam Deck this week alone. Now I'm telling them to either grab a ROG Ally X or wait this out.
Valve's staying quiet, which honestly isn't surprising. They've never been chatty about hardware availability. But if you were planning to grab a Steam Deck, might want to check those European retailers while you still can. Or just refresh the US store obsessively like I'm doing.
