Tech Giants Forcing Secret Deals on Wisconsin Towns

Okay so I saw this and had to share because it's pretty wild. Turns out Microsoft and Meta have been getting Wisconsin towns to sign secret NDAs before they'll even discuss building data centers there. We're talking at least four municipalities that basically got told "sign this or we won't talk."

Here's what bugs me about this whole thing. These aren't some startup companies asking for confidentiality while they work out the kinks. These are trillion-dollar tech giants coming to small towns and saying "trust us, but also you can't tell anyone what we're planning." The power dynamic here is completely lopsided. You've got town councils who are probably excited about potential jobs and tax revenue, and then Microsoft or Meta rolls up with their army of lawyers demanding secrecy.

I get why companies want to keep some things under wraps. But when you're building massive data centers that'll suck down power like nobody's business and impact entire communities, maybe transparency should trump corporate secrecy? These facilities use insane amounts of water for cooling, put stress on local power grids, and yeah, they bring jobs, but what kind and how many? Nobody knows because everyone's lips are sealed.

The worst part is these towns are competing against each other blind. They can't compare notes, can't figure out if they're getting a fair deal, can't even warn neighboring communities about potential issues.
