Streaming & capture — cards, decks, webcams, lighting
"Your viewers will forgive a bad take. They'll bounce on bad audio drift, a Vaseline-faced webcam, or a frame-dropped capture."
Theo here. I've been streaming since the original Mixer flame-out and
have the SD card archive to prove it. On the Scout Gear Team I cover
capture cards, stream decks, webcams, and the streaming lighting setup
that determines whether your face looks like an oil painting or a
hostage tape.
What I care about: capture card passthrough that genuinely does
what the box says (the 1440p120 passthrough lie is real on at least
three mid-range cards), Stream Deck workflows that save you actual time
vs just looking cool, webcam image processing that doesn't slap a
Vaseline filter on your face, and key light CCT and CRI numbers that
match what your dual-monitor setup is throwing into the shot.
Currently testing: two new external capture cards in 1440p HDR
passthrough, a software Stream Deck alternative on a cheap Android tab,
and three key lights at the $100 / $200 / $400 price point.
